LUCKNOW: Badaun MP Sanghmitra Maurya reaffirmed her allegiance to BJP and PM Modi on Friday and took a swipe at Samajwadi Party, the organisation her father and former UP cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya joined during the day in a high-stakes political loyalty shift ahead of state assembly polls this February-March.
She said her relationship with her father is the strongest. “My father is my pride, my hero. The party may be separated, but not father and daughter,” she said. Emotionally moved by her father’s step to crossover to SP, she said: “It is not so that I don’t get what I want. . . When I call and papa doesn’t listen. . . we are not that far. ”
The MP said she was bound by a promise to PM Modi, who considered her as his daughter. “On one hand we have PM Modi, who talks about having a big family of BJP and works for the people. On the other hand, there are people at the lower level who are not willing to accept this and show their narrow-mindedness,” she wrote on Facebook, in an apparent remark on SP. She said the situation in UP was that of “arrogance”.
Shangmitra said she used to do a lot of social work even before she became an MP. “I am now fulfilling my duties as a parliamentarian,” she said.
